Story writing tips
Story writing tips:
- Read every other genre than the one that you are currently writing.
- Dedicate time to writing your story. Maybe a timetable for a long piece?
- Introduce your main characters and plot elements in the first third of your book.
- Do not plan an ending.
- Using interesting verbs are not interesting to read.
- Listen to the comments your first readers make, even if you feel like killing them.
- Do not start your story with writing about the weather.
- Figure what your character looks like and how he talks, although don't feel the need to go into any sort of depth into their description, other than their most noticeable aspects. Leave the rest up to the imagination and give subtle points perhaps later on after introduction.
- Try to use 'said' rather than the synonyms grumbled, gasped, cautioned, lied, and don't use adverbs to modify the word said either.
- Using suddenly or all hell broke loose is the go to for any newby writer and it should definitely /not/ be.
- Try not to use regional dialect too much, unless it's absolutely necessary to the story.
- As said previously, try to avoid super detailed descriptions of characters, this also applies to places.
